Bravery Awards

Here  is one  intresting post.. which i read from some one’s blog…

Here are the medals which are awarded to the the bravest of the brave of the Idian Miltary

Param Vir Chakra

Param Vir Chakra and its ribbon, the highest military decoration of India

Awarded by IndiaType:- Medal

Eligibility :-Military personnel only

Awarded for :-   “… most conspicuous bravery or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self sacrifice, in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea, or in the air.” [1]

Status :- Currently awarded

Established :-26 January, 1950First awarded :-3 November, 1947

Total awarded :-21

Posthumous awards :- 14

Distinct recipients :- 21

The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India
’s highest military decoration
awarded for the highest degree of valour or self-sacrifice in the presence of the enemy.

Param Vir means “Bravest of the Brave” in Hindi
. (Param = Highest; V?r = Brave (warrior); Chakra = wheel/medal).

The PVC was established on 26 January 1950 (the date of India becoming a republic), by the President of India
, with effect from 15 August 1947 (the date of Indian independence). It can be awarded to officers or enlisted personnel from all branches of the Indian military. It is the second highest award of the government of India
after Bharat Ratna
(amendment in the statute on 26 January 1980 resulted in this order of wearing).

Provision was made for the award of a bar for second (or subsequent) awards of the Param Vir Chakra. To date, there have been no such awards. Award of the decoration carries with it the right to use P.V.C. as a postnominal abbreviation.

The Ashoka Chakra is the peace time equivalent of the Param Vir Chakra, and is awarded for the “most conspicuous bravery or some daring or pre-eminent valour or self-sacrifice” other than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded either to military or civilian personnel and may be awarded posthumously Ashoka Chakra Award

The award also carries a cash allowance for those under the rank of lieutenant (or the appropriate service equivalent) and, in some cases, a cash award. On the death of the recipient, the pension
is transferred to the widow until her death or remarriage. The paltry amount of the pension has been a rather controversial issue throughout the life of the decoration. By March 1999, the stipend stood at Rs. 1500 per month. In addition, many states have established individual pension rewards that far exceeds the central government’s stipend for the recipients of the decoration.

Subedar Major Bana Singh
of the Eighth Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry
was the only serving personnel of the Indian defence establishment with a Param Vir Chakra till the Kargil

Rolls Royce Ghost.

The 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost is expected to go on sale early in 2010. The Ghost is larger than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or the Bentley Flying Spur. It’s slightly smaller than the Rolls-Royce Phantom, any Maybach or a Chevy Suburban. Rolls-Royce have advanced from power ratings of “adequate” to “more than 500 horsepower” and are quick to point out the Ghost’s best-in-class emissions and fuel consumption. It will be in market in Early 2010 (aprox) Expected Pricing: $250,000 Which is very far away from my pocket,but.. there is no restriction on Dreams…

The Defence of the Realm: The Authorized History of M15

A new authorised history of MI5 throws light on the dealings of the secret service.

MI5’s task is described in its motto, Regnum Defende – Latin for defence of the realm.

It is a phrase which is deceptively simple, but the true meaning of which has often sparked deep controversy and suspicion.

It is also a title borrowed for the first authorised history of MI5, The Defence of the Realm: The Spooks and the Politicians, which uses the organisation’s own secret records to tell its story from 1909 to the present day.

When it was created in 1909, MI5’s function was simple – catching German spies in Britain.

World War II marked a high point, with MI5 taking the lead in the legendary “double cross” – turning incoming German spies to supply false information back to their controllers.

In the early Cold War, catching Soviet spies became a particularly painful task once it became clear that members of MI5, and its foreign intelligence counterpart MI6, were among those who had been handing over secrets.

It was during the Cold War that MI5’s work became entangled more closely with politics, as it focused on countering “subversion” – those attempting “to undermine or overthrow parliamentary democracy by political, industrial or violent means.”

World’s Largest Cruise Ship

The European unit of STX Group handed over the world’s largest cruise ship to Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines at a shipyard in Turku, Finland on Wednesday, the group said Thursday.

Named the Oasis of the Seas, the vessel offers a number of innovations and will begin her maiden cruise with Royal Caribbean, the second largest cruise operator in the world, in the Caribbean Sea in December.

The W1.8 trillion (US$1=W1,198) ship has an ice rink, a water park, a carousel, a basketball court, a rock climbing wall, a 600-meter running track and a theater that seats some 1,400 people.

The technical highlight of the vessel is a 100 m-long and 19 m-wide open park at its center. Leaving the center of a cruise ship open in such a way was thought to be a structural impossibility, but STX’s engineers managed to do it and the green park was built inside.

“The Oasis of the Seas is the culmination of numerous cutting-edge technologies,” said STX Europe CEO Shin Sang-ho. “We are in talks with other major cruise operators for more orders.”
